The Beauty About Hope…..It Just Keeps Springing

Two professional women: both married with kids and both juggling clients, reports, potty training, packed lunches, chores, dogs, cats, errands, husbands and …”what was that you said? SEX?”
That three-letter word that once was so frequent, so liberating, so yummy has been sidelined in a sea of life, work and snot.
It is time.
Time to put sex back on a pedestal by injecting some extra spice into our relationships.

The Beauty About Hope…..It Just Keeps Springing

On some weeks the Duke knows the mission in advance, on others I just surprise him with it.  He usually likes the surprises as (shock, horror) they tend to lean towards the sex.  This week required advance warning – I couldn’t just covertly smuggle him into the cinema and unveil HOPE SPRINGS in an extravagant flourish.  “Ta-da, this is your lucky day, we get to watch a chick flick together that old people will love”.  That wouldn’t cut it with the Duke.  Nor thinking about it, would it cut it with me if the roles were reversed.  Don’t get me wrong, I love a chick flick / hopeless romantic comedy but if I was hoping for “it”, the news that we get to sit in a crowded room and put “it” on hold whilst we watch Tommy Lee Jones and Meryl Streep learn about re-igniting “it” – well that might be as sexy as a wet dishcloth in your face.

So there was no choice.  Manage his expectations and give the advance warning.

He looked at me, very much in the manner of the Truth or Dare look.

“HOPE SPRINGS, really?  Really?”

I nodded.

“Of course I will come with you,” he replied. “But can I get a hand job instead?”

For the second week running his wish for a “job” of sorts had us both giggling like teenagers.

In the end, we couldn’t get a sitter this week to let us sneak away for a movie mission night. But that’s OK. That’s the thing about hope.  If one has hope, it will continue to bounce through life: one day soon we will get to see the film AND he will get his hand job.  Then, everyone will be a winner.

Hope springs eternal…..
